VERONICA C. LOVE

Veronica Love - PartnerVeronica Cieslik Love was born in York, the sixth of seven children of her Polish and Welsh parents. She was educated at Our Lady’s Primary School and the Bar Convent, York and graduated in History Honours at Manchester University in 1975. She obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Archive Administration from Liverpool University in 1977, and had a first brief career in County Archives in North Yorkshire before having a family and moving to South West Scotland in the 1980s, when she retrained as a Scottish Solicitor qualifying in 1992. Veronica works with private clients, mainly in domestic conveyancing, wills, trusts and executries, including some general and family law. Veronica is based in our Newton Stewart office.

SHIRLEY C. McNEILL

Shirley C. McNeillShirley was educated at Belmont Primary School in Stranraer and Stranraer Academy before attending Strathclyde University where she graduated with a Joint Honours degree in Law and French.  This degree incorporated a year at Toulouse University in the south of France where she studied law taught wholly using the French language.

Shirley obtained her Diploma in Legal Practice from the Glasgow Graduate School of Law and started as a Trainee Solicitor with our Newton Stewart office in 2005.  Now based at our Girvan office, Shirley became an Assistant Solicitor in 2007 and was appointed an Associate in 2009. Shirley deals mainly with private client matters such as domestic and commercial conveyancing, Wills & Trusts and became a member in 2011.

HARRY SHEDDON

Harry SheddonHarry was educated at Girvan Primary and Wellington School, Ayr before attending Dundee University, obtaining an Honours degree in 2010 and a Diploma of Legal Practice the following year.  He was admitted as a solicitor and Notary Public in 2013 having commenced his Traineeship with MacLeod and MacCallum in Inverness and completing it with McCormick and Nicholson. 

Harry’s main focus is in the areas of domestic and rural conveyancing.  He particularly enjoys guiding first time purchasers through the conveyancing process.  He also deals with a wide variety of private client matters including preparation of Wills and Powers of Attorney, Inheritance Tax advice and matrimonial matters.

CRAIG CURRIE

Craig CurrieIn his school years Craig attended Wellington School, Ayr and thereafter obtained his Honours Degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from The University of Glasgow in 2011 and 2012 respectively.  Craig developed a sound appreciation of the commercial sector prior to entering the legal profession through positions in sales management and business development with national and international organisations.

Based in our Girvan Office, Craig’s particular areas of expertise are Agricultural, Commercial and Residential Property as well as assisting clients with their personal affairs such as the preparation of Wills (with particular regard to Inheritance Tax planning), creating Continuing and Welfare Powers of Attorney and administering estates after the loss of a friend, relative or loved one.

EXECUTRY MANAGERS

Kim McKenzieKIM McKENZIE

Kim is originally from Kilmarnock.  She graduated with an M.A from Glasgow University in 1982 and obtained an HND in Administration in 2000 joining Smith and Valentine in that year.  In 2014 Kim was appointed Trust and Executry Manager in our Girvan office.  Kim has successfully completed courses through the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners. 

PARALEGALS

Emma InghamEMMA DAVIES

Emma joined McCormick & Nicholson in 2004 and in 2006 qualified as a conveyancing paralegal after graduating from the University of Strathclyde. As well as dealing with conveyancing matters Emma handles the preparation of Wills and Powers of Attorney.

Emma also obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Agriculture from Harper Adams University College in 2000.

Andrena McCreeryANDRENA McCREERY

Andrena is originally from Northern Ireland arriving in Scotland in 1994 with her family, who farm in the Machars. She was educated at the Douglas Ewart High School before graduating from Napier University in 2007 with a BA Law (Hons) Degree. 

After graduating she spent six months in Australia before returning home to take up position as Assistant Manager at Cream o’ Galloway. She joined the firm in 2011 and provides support in conveyancing and undertakes Executry Administration.    

Marianne GrieveMARIANNE GRIEVE

Marianne comes from an agricultural background and qualified as a paralegal in 1999 and joined Smith and Valentine in 2002. 

Marianne has worked in both the Girvan and Newton Stewart offices but is now based exclusively in Girvan. Marianne deals with a wide range of domestic and commercial conveyancing and domestic leasing. 

Jacinda RennieJACINDA RENNIE

Jacinda is our assistant cashier and a paralegal.  Jacinda attended Douglas Ewart High School and then Aberdeen College where she obtained an HND in Legal Services. 

She joined the firm in 2006 after working for 12 years with J & J M Rennie Chartered Accountants in Newton Stewart.  Jacinda obtained her paralegal qualification from Strathclyde University in 2009.  

Sarah CurrieSARAH CURRIE

Sarah joined Smith & Valentine in May 2014.

She is part of the Executry and Trust team. Sarah obtained her paralegal qualification from Strathclyde University in October 2014.

 

Lauren McKayLAUREN McKAY

After graduating from Strathclyde University with a BA(Hons) degree in Law & History in 2014, Lauren started working towards obtaining paralegal qualifications in residential conveyancing and will, trusts and executries.

She commenced employment with McCormick & Nicholson in July 2015 and is currently working between the Newton Stewart and Girvan offices assisting with conveyancing and guardianship matters.

Linda IrvineLINDA IRVINE

Linda joined Smith & Valentine in 1981 and since returning in 1995 after a career break has been our law accountant responsible for the day-to-day running of our busy cashroom.

She is based in our Girvan office.

Christine McAdamCHRISTINE McADAM

Christine is a Legal Secretary with a wealth of experience having joined the firm in 1981. 

With a background in private client work she is now involved in the preparation of  Wills and  Powers of Attorney and in Reception.

 

Alice Da PratoALICE DA PRATO

Alice was educated in Perthshire before moving to Hertfordshire.  She worked in Finance for 22 years where she gained a Finance and Leasing Certificate. 

Before joining the firm in 2010 she was Centre Manager at the Newton Stewart Campus of Dumfries and Galloway College for 7 years.  Alice is a Secretary and is involved with preparation of Wills and Powers of Attorney and also acts as our receptionist in Newton Stewart. 

 

PRACTICE MANAGER

Alan LoveALAN LOVE

Alan was born in Newcastle upon Tyne and commenced a career in the law in 1973, firstly as a police officer, going on to qualify as an English Solicitor in 1993.

Before moving to South West Scotland, Alan was a partner with a UK Top 100 law firm in the North East of England during which time he acted for a number of corporate clients, organisations and individuals throughout the whole of the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man.

Alan is responsible for the development of the firm as part of his business portfolio, in addition to which he provides advice on matters involving English law.
